By embedding the Rector Script into Planning Center, the Timeline, Team Notes and Rector Script are all contained in a single location. The script will automatically include timeline events, eliminating the need for matching a script to a separate timeline document.
The default SCTD script is formatted to include large 24pt font and colored text to ease readability on the weekend. Each section of text is attached to a separate item in the timeline, for example: 30 minutes in the chapel is broken into separate items for Opening Prayer, Morning Meditation, Worship, Closing Prayer, etc.
To edit the script, you will arrange two windows on screen side-by-side: one to view, and one for editing.
Step 1: Print Preview the Script
The first step is to create a print-preview of the script in a new browser window.
- Open the timeline plan
- Tap the printer icon
- Select “Standard Report”
- Select your preferred font for the timeline section (10pt is the default.) This will not change the Script font.
- Select Format = Web Page
- Select All times
- Unselect all Item Notes
- Check “Item Detail” at the bottom of the Item Notes column
- Click “Submit”
The preview of the Timeline with the Rector Script will open in a new tab.

Step 2: Split the Browser Window
Arrange the screen to view both the working tab and preview tab side-by-side:
- If your browser offers “Split View” arrange the Script and Preview tabs in a new split view window.
- If you do not have the split view option, pull the tab holding the script into a new window by click & holding on the tab while pulling out to a new window. Position the two windows so they are both visible for working.

Step 3: Identify text that requires editing
The “Detail” field in the timeline Plan holds the weekend Rector Script.
- Review the script in the Preview screen and note any areas to be edited.
- Locate the corresponding time on the Edit screen that contains the script to be edited. The items with a “d” inside a blue circle indicate script is in the Detail field of this line item. Click on the “d” to open the entry
.
Step 4: Open the Text Editor
When you first open the Detail box, it will preview in a small window in the bottom right corner of the screen. Tap on “Pop out” to open the larger text edit box.

Step 5: Edit text, change font/color/formatting
Edit the text and formatting as necessary. Formatting options include colored or highlighted text, bullet points, tabs, italics, etc.
Suggested font size and colors:
- 24px font for spoken text and section headers
- BOLD and red for Rector section start
- Navy blue for Rector spoken text
- Black italics for notes, for example: [Pause in silence]
- Brown for Spiritual Director meditations
- Add a blank space at the top of each section for ease in reading on the page

Step 6: Refresh to preview changes
- Save text edits by clicking “done” in the bottom of the text edit pop-out box.
- Refresh the preview browser window to update.

Step 7: Print the script to PDF
When all changes are completed, print the script following step 1, but this time select “PDF” instead of Web Browser output.
